Could Testosterone Replacement Therapy Improve Ejaculatory Dysfunction?
Testosterone replacement therapy does not improve ejaculatory dysfunction in men androgen-deficient men, according to a recent study.
“Low testosterone levels have been associated with ejaculatory dysfunction (EjD) in cross-sectional studies; however, the efficacy of testosterone replacement in improving EjD has not been studied in a randomized controlled trial,” said the study’s authors.

For their study, researchers evaluated 66 men who displayed 1 or more symptoms of EjD—including decreased ejaculate volume or reduced force of ejaculation, anejaculation, and delayed ejaculation—and had 2 overall testosterone level measurements that were <300 ng/dL.
For 16 weeks, participants were given either 60 mg of 2% testosterone solution or placebo.
Overall, while testosterone treatment improved scores on the Male Sexual Health Questionnaire-Ejaculatory Dysfunction-Short Form, the results were not statistically significant when compared with placebo.
The complete study published in the July issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.
