The Mediterranean Diet is best known for elements including the consumption of dairy products, fish, and poultry more often than red meat, as well as an emphasis on fruits, vegetables, potatoes, bread and other cereals, nuts, seeds, beans, and olive oil.2 The diet also leaves room for the consumption of wine in low to moderate amounts.2
The Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) Diet, Flexitarian Diet, Mayo Clinic Diet, and vegan diet came in a 4-way tie for second place in U.S. News and World Report’s 2020 diabetes diet rankings. Tied for sixth place were the Jenny Craig Diet, Ornish Diet, and Volumetrics Diet. The Engine 2 Diet and Weight Watchers Diet tied for ninth place.
The Mediterranean Diet was also named the best overall diet for both 2019 and 2020. The DASH Diet and Flexitarian Diet tied for second best overall diet for 2020. The full rankings are posted on the U.S. News and World Report website.
