New Falls Prevention Website Launched

Ms. Blanchard is the librarian at the Misericordia Health Centre Library, University of Manitoba Health Sciences Libraries in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Prior to working at the Misericordia Health Centre, Laurie worked at the J.W. Crane Memorial Library, Deer Lodge Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba for 20 years. She authors the InfoLTC blog for which she won a Manitoba Library Association's Innovation Award and the People’s Choice Award for Best Poster at the CHLA/ABSC 2009 Conference in Winnipeg. Ms. Blanchard is a former editor of the Bibliotheca Medica Canadiana (now the Journal of the Canadian Health Libraries Association (CHLA) , and currently serves on the board of the CHLA. Winnipeg, MB – Preventfalls.ca is an innovative new website aimed at reducing serious injuries caused by falls in older adults and children, the two groups that are at highest risk.
Preventfalls.ca includes information about what puts people at risk and gives information about what they can do to stay on their feet. Unique features of the website include:
▪ Interactive checklist to help older adults and their families identify the person’s personal risk factors ▪ An inventory of exercise programs that meet criteria for preventing falls, searchable by postal code. Preventfalls.ca is part of the Staying on Your Feet falls prevention program of the WRHA. |
